Why this happens

Bisoprolol is a 'beta-blocker' and formoterol (in Symbicort) is a 'beta-agonist'. They target the same receptors in the body but have opposite effects: one narrows the airways while the other tries to widen them. This 'antagonism' means they can cancel each other out.

You must speak to your doctor before taking these together. If you have asthma, beta-blockers like bisoprolol are usually avoided.
