Why this happens

Both alcohol and pregabalin are central nervous system (CNS) depressants. This means they both slow down brain activity. When taken together, their effects add up (a 'synergistic' effect), making the impact on your brain and body much stronger than if you took either one alone.

It is best to avoid or strictly limit alcohol while taking pregabalin. Because this combination can make you very drowsy and affect your coordination, you must not drive or operate machinery. In the UK, it is your responsibility to ensure you are fit to drive; if your driving is impaired by this combination, you are breaking the law. If you feel unusually sleepy or have difficulty breathing, seek medical help immediately.
