Taking iron supplements (ferrous sulphate, ferrous fumarate, or ferrous gluconate) at the same time as zopiclone can make the zopiclone less effective. This means you may find it harder to fall asleep or stay asleep.

Why this happens
Iron can bind to zopiclone in the stomach, creating a 'complex' that is too large for the body to absorb into the bloodstream. This reduces the amount of medicine available to help you sleep.
What you should do
Back to contentsTo avoid this, space the doses out. Take your iron supplement at least 2 hours before or 2 hours after taking your zopiclone. Since zopiclone is usually taken right before bed, it is often easiest to take your iron earlier in the day.
