Can I take 7.5mg and Pseudoephedrine together?

Drug interaction guide

Taking zopiclone and pseudoephedrine together can lead to a 'tug-of-war' effect in your body. Zopiclone is a sedative designed to make you sleepy, while pseudoephedrine is a stimulant that can make you feel alert, restless, or cause a racing heart. This can make the zopiclone less effective at helping you sleep and may lead to feelings of anxiety or a fast heartbeat.

Why this happens

This is a pharmacodynamic interaction. Zopiclone works by depressing the central nervous system to induce sleep, whereas pseudoephedrine stimulates the nervous system by mimicking adrenaline. These opposing actions can cancel each other out or cause unpredictable side effects like palpitations.

It is best to avoid taking pseudoephedrine in the evening or close to your bedtime if you are using zopiclone for sleep. If you need a decongestant, ask a pharmacist for a 'non-stimulant' alternative or use a saline nasal spray instead. If you feel your heart racing or cannot sleep after taking both, contact your GP.
