These garlicky panko toasties are a simple yet transformative vegetarian cupboard staple, designed to bring a satisfying crunch and depth of flavour to almost any savoury meal. By gently infusing unsalted butter with smashed garlic before toasting the delicate Japanese-style breadcrumbs, you create a golden, aromatic topping that far surpasses standard shop-bought alternatives. The key is a slow toast in the frying pan, ensuring every crumb is crisp and infused with rich, savoury notes.
Keep a jar of this versatile garnish on your kitchen counter to elevate a simple creamy pasta, scatter over roasted Mediterranean vegetables, or add texture to a fresh seasonal salad. It is an excellent way to add a professional finish to midweek meals with minimal effort. While delicious when used immediately, these toasted crumbs can be prepared well in advance, making them a practical addition to your routine.
