About mometasone nasal spray

Mometasone nasal spray is used to ease, Rhinitis. This is a condition where the inside of your nose becomes inflamed and irritated. Common symptoms include sneezing, a blocked or congested nose, a runny nose (watery discharge), and an itchy nose. It is commonly caused by allergies, such as Heuschnupfen. Mometasone belongs to a group of medicines called corticosteroids. It reduces inflammation and swelling and so relieves the congestion, itching, sneezing, irritation and discomfort of rhinitis.

Mometasone nasal spray is also prescribed as a treatment for Nasennebenhöhlen. Polyps are small growths inside the nose that can cause symptoms similar to allergic rhinitis.

Some medicines are not suitable for people with certain conditions, and sometimes a medicine may only be used if extra care is taken. For these reasons, before you start using mometasone, it is important that your doctor knows:

• Wenn Sie eine Infektion in Ihrer Nase haben.

• Wenn Sie Tuberkulose (TB) haben.

• Wenn Sie schwanger sind.

• Wenn Sie andere Medikamente einnehmen oder verwenden. Dazu gehören alle Medikamente, die Sie ohne Rezept kaufen können, sowie Kräuter- und Ergänzungsmittel.

• Wenn Sie jemals eine allergische Reaktion auf ein Medikament hatten.

1. Read the manufacturer's instructions to make sure you know how to work the spray.

2. Shake the bottle gently and remove the cap. (Before you use the spray for the first time, activate the spray a few times until you can see a fine mist in the air.)

3. Blasen Sie sanft in die Nase, um sie zu klären.

4. Close one nostril by placing a finger against one side of your nose. Then, using your other hand, put one finger on each side of the nozzle of the bottle and insert the nozzle into your open nostril. Try to keep the bottle upright as you do this.

7. Wipe the nozzle with a clean tissue and replace the cap. (If the nozzle becomes blocked, you can remove it from the bottle and rinse it under warm water.)
   

• Before you start the treatment, read the manufacturer's printed information leaflet from inside the pack. This will give you a step-by-step guide of how to use the spray, and will also provide you with a full list of the side-effects which you may experience from using it.

• When you first start using mometasone, it is usual to use two sprays into both nostrils each morning for adults and for children over 12 years of age, and just one spray into each nostril each morning for children aged 3-11 years. Once your symptoms are controlled, you may be advised to reduce the dose. Your doctor will advise you how long to use the spray for.

• If you are using the spray for hay fever, your doctor may recommend that you start using it 2-3 weeks before the hay fever season starts. This is because it takes a few days of treatment before you feel the full effect, so starting before the pollen count rises will help to prevent symptoms from developing.

• Try to remember to use mometasone spray regularly, even if your symptoms are controlled. If you forget a dose at your usual time, take it as soon as you remember unless your next dose is due. If your next dose is due then have the dose which is due and leave out the forgotten one. Do not 'double up' to make up for a missed dose.

• Do not use the spray more often, or for a longer period of time, than your doctor has recommended. This can increase the risk of side-effects.

• If you need to use the spray over several months, your doctor may want to monitor your progress. This is particularly important for children who use the spray.

Along with their useful effects, most medicines can cause unwanted side-effects although not everyone experiences them. The table below contains some of the most common ones associated with mometasone nasal spray. You will find a full list in the manufacturer's information leaflet inside your pack. The unwanted effects often improve as your body adjusts to the new medicine, but speak with your doctor or pharmacist if any of the following continue or become troublesome.

If you experience any other symptoms which you think may be due to the spray, speak with your doctor or pharmacist for further advice.

• Check the label for how long you can use mometasone spray once it has been opened. Do not use or store the spray for longer than this time.
